I was in the Esplanade area of Toronto getting on a street car to go to a burger spot which was going to be too long of a trot once I got off the street car. So I changed my mind and googled burger spots near me and Crack Burger was one of the options that turned up. It’s a burger spot that I’ve always wanted to check out so I decided to go there. Upon entry, I found the place to have the typical burger joint artwork, but it was a lot cleaner than a lot of spots that I had been to. The decor had taken a bit more effort than your typical burger joint really paying homage to the founding of the restaurant the theme behind the restaurant and the ideology of the restaurant so it was very much appreciated to be able to learn about the origin story and learn about the influences that inspired the owner to open up crack burger in the first place. Speaking of the owner, he is a very warm and friendly and courteous individual who might come off a bit abrasive and gruff, but it really lends credence to the personality of the place and he is very helpful with the menu and very interested in getting feedback about the burger you purchased itself. One might mistake him for being a bit aggressive, but he’s really passionate about what he does and it’s great to see customer service being proud of the product they’re presenting. And the burger itself was spectacular. Indeed it didn’t need ketchup. It was very flavorful, and I like that they didn’t cheap out on flavour just by making it spicy. My only drawback with the burger would be that the bun really soaked up the caramelized onion. I let it sit too long and it got kind of soggy but it ended up being a bonus because then the bun just had the flavour of the caramelized onion. I had the burger with a side of poutine, which wasn’t spectacular or mind blowing, but it is one of the better poutine‘s in the city which is saying a lot because there’s a lot of poutine in the city and not all of them are worthy of being finished I love the location. The fact that I can walk back into Kensington market to walk off my meal with the sights and sounds there or I can walk back out on the Spadina, and soak up the sights and sounds there. I shall return another time and I will have a burger that requires ketchup because I do like a traditional burger, even though the crack burger was very good. And I’m looking forward to trying out a dessert or two as well. But it will definitely be a a treat meal. Not because it was expensive or anything. It was reasonably priced as far as competitors in the city for premium burgers go, but because that burger was just so darn filling I nearly didn’t finish it.
