Burger Republic has a decent crispy chicken burger, great seating and staff.
Food
This place offers smash burgers, but I’m not a fan of them as they’re quicker to prepare, but usually have less meat, are greasier and in turn, unhealthier. For that reason, I tried their Crispy Chicken Burger ($13) along with Homemade Fries ($5.50) and a drink ($3).
They ran out of coleslaw, so the staff substituted tomato and lettuce for the burger (which was great, I’d recommend asking for this in general because it had a great crunch, and it sounds healthier too).
The Classic Chicken Burger comes with a 4oz crispy chicken, cheddar cheese, pickles, republic Sauce and traditionally coleslaw (but as said above, referencing the photo attached, it’s tomato and lettuce). The burger was fresh, juicy and very tasty. To be honest, I loved it, but it had a weird aftertaste.
If you look at the photos of the meal, it looks amazing, and it was, except for the aftertaste. It wasn’t until I ate a bit of the fries that I realised it was the oil. It seemed like the oil that was used for the fryer was old, or the food was double fried. I took a picture of the fries for reference. Either they double fried older fries with newer fries or the oil was old, but if you look at the picture, you can distinctly see how much lighter the front straightened ones are than the ones in the back.
If not for the aftertaste of the strong oil, I’d give this crispy chicken sandwich 5/5, but as the oil was quite pungent for the sandwich and the fries, I’ve deducted two stars and give the food 3/5.
Service
I would give this place 5/5 stars for service. The person at the front was amazing and extremely helpful. As well as warm, friendly and providing great service. I’d come back to Burger Republic to try another item just because the service was that good. They’re generous with the sauces, you’re brought the food as soon as it is ready, and the staff that was working there was happy to help with anything you might need.
Atmosphere
I would give it 5/5. The place has great seating, lots of space to relax and is very clean.
Ultimately, the total for the Crispy Chicken Burger, fries and drink was $22.60 (tax included). I found the price quite expensive for a burger meal, and given the aftertaste of the oil, I wouldn’t recommend it as one the most ideal places to get a burger in Toronto. If the oil was not so strong, I’d say the burger was very good, as it was definitely juicy and fresh, still expensive, but still a good fair meal.
